University Mapping Project

April 2023 update. We are excited to release the write up of our University Mapping Project. We have created a report and visual resources to help key stakeholders understand the academic landscape of cellular agriculture in the UK, its current state and future potential. Using systematic analysis we have highlighted the potential of UK universities to become anchor institutions, or hubs, for the emerging field of cellular agriculture. A longlist of 17 universities with highest potential and an interactive map have been created to easily see the details of the universities’ potential and current relevant activities. This is very much a snapshot of the current landscape in a rapidly growing and ever changing field. In fact, as we were in the final write up stages there was an announcement about a new Cellular Agriculture Manufacturing Hub. In order to make these visual resources continue to be useful we welcome updates from any universities and are also keen to discuss the project and our methodology, so please do get in touch with us!

May 2023 update. We will continue to update the map but had always intended the project write up to be a snapshot in time, so the report below is only true as of what we knew in April. However, we have also now created a working document that allows anyone to make comments as new updates occur. Both this document and our original report can be found by following the link below.

University Outreach Project

April 2023 update. This project is looking at catalysing the establishment of student led alt protein/cell ag societies at a number of universities in the UK, in order to support the growth of a larger, more diverse and more engaged cellular agriculture community in the UK. Part one of the project has been completed and we are now undergoing part two, building on existing work to support and catalyse the establishment of university cellular agriculture or alternative protein societies (or similar) in the UK:

Attention all university students interested in alternative proteins and cellular agriculture! Are you passionate about sustainability and the future of food? With support from CellAg UK, you can start a student society at your university and connect with like-minded individuals who share your interests. Let's come together to help build this cutting-edge field and make a positive impact on our planet!
